Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni releases Bharat-2010 and India-2010

New Delhi: The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Smt. Ambika Soni today released INDIA 2010 AND BHARAT 2010, the comprehensive reference annual.  While unveiling the 54th edition of INDIA Annual, the Minister urged that every possible effort should be made to ensure wider reach of the compendium.  Smt. Soni said that unless information about the Government of India schemes reaches every citizen of this country, the work of media units of the Ministry remains unfinished.  The Minister also advised that to make the publication effort more meaningful, proper translation in all constitutional languages should be made available in the educational institutions particularly.
The publication is a useful ready reckoner for students and civil services aspirants. The book containing over 1200 pages of authentic and up-to-date information on various aspects of our national life is a rich source of information on India’s economy, polity, demography, land and people, health, defence, art & culture, flora and fauna, scientific advancements, constitutional amendments etc. It also incorporates sections on Education, Information Technology and Current Affairs. This 54th edition of the reference annual has also covered most contemporary topics like climate change, exploration & conservation of biosphere reserves, Akshay Urja (renewable energy) and sustainable development, the MIS scheme for monitoring and evaluation of government programmes, nuclear power programme, AIDS and cancer control programmes, immunization, recent economic upheaval etc.
Shri S.M. Khan, Director General, Research Reference & Training Division in his welcome address introduced the reference annuals to the dignitaries present there. The Additional Director General (In-charge) of Publications Division Shri K.S. Dhatwalia assured the Minister that all efforts to increase sales of books by Publications Division would be undertaken in earnest.  The Secretary Ministry of I&B Sh. Raghu Menon was also present on the occasion.
 The book is available for sale from the  sales counters of the Publications Division  as also on  online at www.publicationsdivision.nic.in. Publications Division is among .the largest public sector publishing houses in the country with over 8000 titles in Hindi, English and other major languages of the country.  With a mandate to publish books on matters of national importance at affordable prices, the division publishes books in all the thirteen languages scheduled in the Constitution. monthly magazines Yojana –published in 13 languages simultaneously, Kurukshetra in Hindi and English, literary magazine Ajkal in Hindi and Urdu and children’s magazine Bal Bharati in Hindi are published by the Division. It also publishes the popular weekly career journals Employment News and Rozgar Samachar.
